Map Library Is Printing! Plus Production News
21 days ago – Fri, Sep 27, 2024 at 07:07:14 AM

Map Library is PRINTING!

That's right! The Map Library is officially in the production stage 🥳 Oh yes.

We've now sent files to print for all 100 maps, an eight-page content booklet, the box itself, and all add-ons. Seeing everything coming together like this is soooooo satisfying.

So many locations for your party to start a fight...

What comes next is a thorough process of reviewing proofs and samples to check we're 100% happy with how things are being made. All being well, this stage will wrap up in mid-November.

Digital Downloads

Meanwhile, we're keeping busy adapting the map files and organising them for digital use. These will be ready by the end of October, and we'll share another update to let you know when to expect them.

Add-On Advances

In other awesome news, the majority of add-ons for this project have gone through all those fiddly checks, and we've got advance copies for all these goodies:

  • Travel Folder
  • All Enamel Pins
  • Cartographer's Guild Coins
  • Grid Paper Pads

These are shipping to our warehouse as we speak, so they'll be ready to add into your parcels when the Map Library and Tabletop Tokens are ready in January.

No Place Like Homebrew

Did you see our big news? Our next Kickstarter project is No Place Like Homebrew!

No Place Like Homebrew gives you the power to easily build your own epic fantasy campaign setting. You’ll find hundreds of immersive locations, unforgettable NPCs, intriguing factions, formidable creatures and more that you can combine to create a homebrew world that is truly unique, and truly yours.

The book's compatible with D&D 5E, 5.5E and more, and we launch next month. Early backers get exclusive rewards, so I'd love to see you there on Day 1! Sign up for an early bird alert here.

Unforgettable NPCs, with incredible art by Toby Fox.

I'm so pumped for the next few months – getting to share all these maps with you, and diving into a new project. Huge thanks again for making it all possible.

Look out for the next update, I'll share more info about your digital downloads.

Until then, keep rolling!

Token Box Preview! Maps Complete!!
about 2 months ago – Fri, Aug 23, 2024 at 04:55:19 AM

Hey there,

The update title says it all – we hit some big milestones this month!

Maps Complete

It's official – all cartography is complete. Venatus Maps has worked INCREDIBLY hard to illustrate all the maps in the box set over months of work. I commissioned the first map for One-Shot Wonders back in August 2022, and now after the Map Library Kickstarter campaign we have a whopping 100 maps to go with the adventures in the book. That's right...

The Map Library now has 100 maps!!

When the project closed on 90 maps, lots of you told us you wished there was a 100 map stretch goal. I felt the same, but before committing, we had to check it was actually possible to change the box size to fit that many maps. It's super satisfying to have hit that round number, and it meant we could add even more options for your adventures.

Drop some party emojis in the comments to congratulate Venatus on nailing this massive task! 💯🎉👏

Take a sneak peek at the final contents below:

Token Box Preview

The Token Box printed dummy arrived and... oh my, this thing is so cool. Everything looks so beautifully printed, and the tokens are made from ultra-sturdy blueboard so they won't frey or scuff. There's over 100 tokens that all fit neatly into embroidered bags.

This is genuinely one of the best products we've ever made, and makes such a good alternative to minis.

If you didn't pick up the Token Box in the pledge manager, we're opening up a final chance to get it at the ridiculously cheap Kickstarter price of £25.00 (RRP £44.99). If you want to snag one, drop us an email or Kickstarter message before the end of the day Monday 26th August. We'll then unlock and manually amend your pledge. After that, it will be available for pre-order on our website at standard RRP.

Next Steps

The obvious next question is, "So, when do we get the maps?"

Physical Fulfilment

Cartography has wrapped up bang on schedule, so we'll be spending the next couple of weeks preparing the maps for print. This includes labelling all the maps, optimising the colours for print, creating a contents booklet and index, and finalising the box design. The printer is scheduled to start printing in September. So, we're on track for physical fulfilment in early 2025.

Digital Fulfilment

Once the files are safely at the printer, we'll get everything ready for digital fulfilment. This means organising all the map files into an easy-to-navigate digital folder system, getting them uploaded, and sending them out to backers. This is scheduled for October 2024.

One-Shot Wonders Wins Again

Thanks to your votes, One-Shot Wonders has won the Silver ENNIE Award for Best Adventure – Short Form! At the ceremony, we found out there were 900 entries to the ENNIE Awards this year and 28,000 people voted. It’s mind-blowing to get the win alongside so many other incredible nominees.

With this win, One-Shot Wonders is now a TRIPLE award-winning book - how cool is that?!

I'm going to wrap this update here, and get cracking on prepping files for print. I'll be back next month with more progress updates.

See you then,

Sam.

Map Progress Update and Pin Samples
3 months ago – Thu, Jul 11, 2024 at 10:32:24 AM

Hey there,

Hope you've had a great week. Today's update is a progress check-in, so let's dive in.

Map Progress

Work on the maps is ticking along nicely. Over 80% of the maps are now complete, right on schedule to finish the maps later this summer. Our cartographer Venatus Maps is absolutely nailing every map brief.

Here's another sneak peek of a WIP map – this abandoned cottage has mysterious occult workshops in the basement. It's designed for use with our 'Study Break' one-shot (One-Shot Wondersp.130), with the all-important coloured gem, mirror room and enchanted archway from the story. This map would also work great as a creepy cult's headquarters, or the secret hideout of a wizard.

Product Samples

A couple of weeks ago, the first samples came in of our three enamel pins (Goblin Chef, Owlbear and limited edition Compass). These are still a work in progress, but they look really high quality and have an awesome shine to them.

Files to Print

The Hex Grid Paper and Square Grid Paper pads are the first of this project's add-ons to be officially sent to the printer. They'll be followed in the week or so by the Cartographer's Guild Coin, Travel Folder and the outer case for the Map Library itself.

GenCon 2024

Are you going to GenCon in Indianapolis, USA? Kay and I will be there as visitors over the weekend for the first time. I'm hoping I won't see too many things I like, as I don't have much room in my suitcase – but I feel like as soon as I see a stand with dice on it, it'll be game over. Give me your top tips for the convention in the comments!

All the best,

Sam.

Production samples and updates
4 months ago – Thu, Jun 06, 2024 at 06:53:58 AM

Hey everyone,

It was great to see so many of you at our UK Games Expo stand over the weekend. The love for the Map Library sample was unreal!

We recently received some new production samples of the Monster Tokens box and Cartographer's Coin in the post, and I wanted to show them off in an update. Keep scrolling for new map sneak peeks too, and some other exciting news.

Map Progress

Our cartographer, Venatus Maps, has been doing incredible work on this project. Around 75% of the maps are completely finished, and the remaining ones are all briefed and in various stages of development. We're on track to finish the maps later this summer.

Let me tell you, these maps are coming along veeerrryy nicely.

'Palace Rooms' map development

A new delivery from Venatus is the highlight of my day. I can't wait to see them all printed full-size.

Product Samples

Check out this Monster Token add-on unboxing! I was really impressed by the sample – the tokens are super durable and will work perfectly with the Map Library's battle maps. I'm currently putting together files for a printed dummy, so we should get a foiled version with final artwork soon.

If you want to pick up some Monster Tokens, but haven't already, IT'S NOT TOO LATE! Drop us an email at [email protected] and we can look into adding a box to your pledge manager. You'll need to finalise payment after we've added them. This is the last chance to get the box at Kickstarter-exclusive pricing of £24.99, as they'll be around £49.99 when they hit our web store.

The tokes have 5 double-sided designs, with another double-sided design for the gargantuan tokens (12 unique designs total).

We also received a sample of the Cartographer's Guild Coin. It has a really nice weight to it, flips well, and looks lustrous and shiny. Early backers all received this shiny souvenir included in their pledge as a gift from us.

UK Games Expo

We had an amazing time at UKGE in Birmingham (UK) last weekend. It was great to show off the sample in person.

We also won TWO awards! After winning the Judges' Choice Award for Best RPG Adventure, One-Shot Wonders was also named the People's Choice for Best RPG Adventure. I'm still speechless that we got the double win. Thanks to everyone who voted, it means so much to us.

That's all our Map Library news for now, we'll be back next month with another update.

All the best,

Sam.
